Anthroponomy, the science that studies personal names (surnames, fi rst names, farther names, mother names, nicknames, pseudonyms) is one of the most important, if not the primary “source” of a nation’s identity. Anthroponomical system acts as an interface of self-defi nition images and representations which, reported to the specifi c context in which they took birth, turn into marks of identity, illustrating the economic and social reality, customs, traditions, the level of culture, religion, likes and dislikes at a certain moment or in a certain period of time. Perpetuation of national anthroponomy ought to become a priority for each generation in order to preserve our national identit
